Siyabonga Macu, one of the men implicated in the murder of Glen and Vida Rafferty, has been shot and killed.

On 4 November 2022, Macu had gone inside his family home in the Koppie Allen Farm area to have a bath before heading to Madadeni High Court to testify in the ongoing case, where he and his co-accused faced charges of murder and robbery.

While he was busy bathing, police sources said that his sister heard a knock at the door. Upon opening the door, she was met by two armed African men. The men allegedly pointed their firearms at her and asked where her brother was, before coming into the house to look for him.

At this time, Macu’s sister hid away with her child. While in hiding, she stated that she heard gunshots and after coming out of hiding discovered Macu laying in a pool of blood. Later on, as confirmed by Police, a 9mm cartridge was found near the body.

Captain Siakhakhane of Dannhauser SAPS confirmed the shooting, stating that while no suspects had yet been apprehended, the case had been taken over by Vryheid’s Organised Crime Task Team.

With investigations into the murder underway, Captain Siakhakhane added that Macu’s co-accused, Doctor Ngwenya and Sibongiseni Madondo, were officially sentenced to life imprisonment by the Madadeni High Court on Tuesday, 15 November 2022.

Sifiso Zwane, one of the men accused of his role in the horrific crime, pleaded guilty to multiple counts in the Pietermaritzburg High in March 2021, while the fifth accused, Khulekhani Mbongwa was killed during a drug-related crime in December 2021.
