A child has died after falling into a trench on a Newcastle Municipal Construction site in Osizweni, KwaZulu-Natal.
Transpiring on Saturday, 5 November 2022, the child was apparently playing near Theku Plaza, Osizweni, and fell into the trench, passing away shortly afterwards.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) Constituency Head of Amajuba, Dr Imran Keeka said, “The DA in Amajuba is deeply saddened by the loss of a young life at a Newcastle Municipal construction site, where the Municipality is laying pipes. This child fell into the ditch and lost his life. We express our condolences to the family, and still await further details that will be released by the Newcastle Municipality soon.”
Additionally, Newcastle‘s Deputy Mayor and Technical Services Portfolio Chairperson, Cllr Musa Thwala voiced his sadness, highlighting that the Newcastle Municipality would be investigating the heart-breaking passing of the child, and would be notifying the public of their findings as soon as more information was available.
Osizweni SAPS Spokesperson, Captain Sipho Nkosi has confirmed that the child was approximately eight-years-old. “The Osizweni Police have opened an Inquest case and police investigations are underway,” affirmed Captain Nkosi.

Instead of doing their jobs and risking others lives they worry about money and not about the people around them. I hope this lesson will help them realize that they should finish their jobs and stop their corruptness. Get the JOBS done. Stop leaving everything halfway.
