Motorists using the N11 on Monday night, 31 October 2022, were left in horror after witnessing a collision that saw two vehicles going up in flames, resulting in one person dying.
Taking place between 9 pm and 10 pm, Road Angels Traffic Information explained that according to reports, the incident unfolded after a truck and a car collided in a head-on collision approximately 15 km from Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal.
Shortly after the crash, the two vehicles caught alight. This saw firefighters from the Alfred Duma (Ladysmith) Municipality alongside other emergency services working tirelessly to extinguish the flames and save the vehicles’ occupants. However, one of the occupants did pass away.
Following the tragic incident and a recent major collision outside Estcourt a few days prior, the MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Sipho Hlomuka, has called on road users to respect traffic laws, saying everyone has a duty to save human lives on the road.
Hlomuka further added that the department was going to give a full account of the October Transport Month Campaign, which was characterised by massive enforcement operations and visibility.
Furthermore, Hlomuka said government and stakeholders will build from the successes of the October Transport Month to prepare for the Festive Season Safety Campaign.
“This is no time to surrender or retreat. We will soldier on emboldened by the progress we made during the October Transport Month Campaign. Ours is to make sure that we deliver a safer festive season period. All law enforcement agencies are joining hands to prepare for the festive season and take the fight against lawlessness to another level. We want to make sure that people are safe in communities and are safe on the road,” Hlomuka concluded.

There’s too many carnages on our roads and too little done . No respect for road rules an robots . There should be more traffic police in towns to control people going over red robots . We have no control in our town especially on month ends
