An electronics business on Allen Street, Newcastle was targeted on Thursday night, 27 October 2022. According to Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team member, Imran Ghafoor the suspect broke into the store via the business’s roof, stealing an undisclosed amount of stock.

“The owner closed the store at approximately 5 pm and when he returned the next morning, he saw that his business had been broken into,” confirmed Ghafoor.

However, the burglar’s freedom was short-lived due to crime intelligence revealing the suspect’s whereabouts. This saw Amajuba Crime Intelligence, Newcastle K9 Unit, Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team and the Newcastle Community Policing Forum (CPF) descend upon the man’s home in KwaMathukuza on Sunday, 30 October 2022.

As a result, the thief was arrested and some of the stolen stock recovered. While the suspect is set to be charged, Ghafoor is encouraging business owners to tighten up their security systems, especially during loadshedding.

“Criminals know that alarms rely on electricity, so people need to ensure they have the necessary back-up during this time,” affirmed Ghafoor.
