On Tuesday night, 25 October 2022, in Volksrust, Mpumalanga the driver of a Ford Ranger bakkie allegedly caused a major collision involving two trucks before fleeing the scene.

WATCO Emergency Medical Services Spokesperson Charles Steyn explained that WATCO received a call at 9.45 pm on Tuesday night, regarding a collision involving two side-tippers and a bakkie on the R23 near the crossing at Chris Hani Street in Volksrust.

“Allegedly, the white Ford Ranger bakkie was travelling on Chris Hani Street, towards the R23 (Govan Mbeki Drive) and did not stop at the intersection.”

One of the side tippers, travelling towards Volksrust, struck the bakkie and lost control, colliding with the other tipper travelling towards Perdekop, causing the vehicle to overturn.

Steyn further added that following the chaotic collision, the driver of the Ford Ranger fled the scene. Law enforcement is still searching for the owner of the vehicle.

“Luckily, the two drivers of the trucks sustained slight injuries, nothing serious,” he explained.

Despite the late hour of the collision, the clean-up operations continued throughout most of Wednesday, 26 October 2022.

Do you know who this person is? If so, let law enforcement know.
