Northern KwaZulu-Natal man has been charged with murder and attempted murder after Ladysmith SAPS officers visited him in Hospital for an entirely different crime.

KwaZulu-Natal SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala explained that on Friday, 21 October 2022, police officers from the Provincial Organised Crime Unit received information about two brothers who were admitted to hospital due to an accidental discharge of a firearm.

“The team proceeded to the hospital in Ladysmith, where the brothers were found. It was established that one of the brothers, aged 37, was wanted in the murder case where Siyabonga ‘Nginga’ Zwane was shot and killed on 22 June 2022 at Emabhekazi in Ekuvukeni.”

The victim (Zwane) was on his way to a funeral when he was shot and killed. Two others were also injured and taken to hospital for medical attention.

“Investigations revealed that Zwane was the chairman of a taxi association based in Gauteng. The arrested suspect will be charged for murder and attempted murder in absentia, and the case will be placed before the Ladysmith Magistrates Court on Monday, 24 October 2022,” said Lieutenant Gwala.
