According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), severe thunderstorms are expected to hit various towns throughout Northern KwaZulu-Natal today.

The weather service further explained that this is due to an upper-air trough expected over western parts of the country on Tuesday, 18 October 2022. “This weather system will enhance the developments of thunderstorms over the KZN province, with conditions favourable for severe thunderstorms over the western parts of KZN,” noted SAWS.

These thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by strong damaging winds, excessive lightning and heavy downpours.

Communities expected to be impacted:

  • Newcastle
  • Vryheid
  • Ladysmith
  • Indaka
  • Dannhauser
  • Underberg
  • eDumbe
  • Utrecht
  • Dundee
  • Impendle
  • Ingwe
  • Estcourt
  • Sobabili
  • Giants Castle
  • Mooi River
  • Msinga
  • Nquthu
  • Bergville
  • uMngeni

With the long awaited rains set to hit Northern KwaZulu-Natal, do you feel the weather service has called the weather forecast correctly?
