On Monday night, 22 August 2022, while travelling along the Memel Road, two people narrowly escaped death after a strange sequence of events.

At approximately 7.30 pm, emergency services were notified of a major collision on the infamous Memel Road, near the Ingogo turn-off.

Responding to the call, KwaZulu Private Ambulance explained that a bakkie had collided head-on with a truck. An official source explained that while the exact cause of the collision was unclear, it appeared that a second truck, which was broken down along the road, played a role.

Allegedly the truck was standing on the side of the road and its lights were not working, when the approaching bakkie clipped it from the rear and then swerve around it. “The bakkie then tried to move out of the way, when the motorist hit the oncoming vehicle (the truck).”

The spokesperson for KwaZulu Private Ambulance Craig Botha said paramedics treated and transported one person who sustained serious injuries and a second person who sustained minor injuries.

As the collision is now under police investigations, what are your thoughts on the above-mentioned?
