A Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal business owner was brutally murdered in his factory on Saturday, 6 August 2022. This was after he, his wife and an employee had endured torture at the hands of their assailants.
The Chinese Chamber of Commerce’s Alex Liu explained that at around 8 pm the factory owner, his wife and an employee were ambushed at their Albert Wessels Drive factory. “The three lived on the factory’s premises, and the suspects knew this, as they were employees of the factory owner,” explained Liu.
According to Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, Lizzy Arumugam, the four suspects had managed to enter the business premises prior to the attack and hid inside before ambushing the three unsuspecting victims.
Moreover, Liu said that after the suspects ambushed the three, the criminals proceeded to tie the victims up. It was then that things took a turn for the worst, with Liu saying that the suspects tortured their victims while demanding cash.
“One of the women managed to press the panic button, which notified the security company that a situation was taking place. While rushing to the premises, the security company notified the police.”
However, Liu said that by the time help arrived, the factory owner had already succumbed to his injuries, passing away on the scene. He and the two women had been stabbed multiple times. Adding to this, Liu said the two women were rushed to hospital, but are still in critical condition.
A police source added that when law enforcement arrived on the scene, they found the deceased factory owner lying dead in a pool of blood. Furthermore, the source pointed out that police were told that one of the suspects had been shot by a security guard, while another was still inside the factory.
“The suspect inside was found with blood on his clothes and arrested. The other suspect which had been shot was taken to hospital,” affirmed the police source.
According to reports, nothing was taken from the factory during the inhuman attack.
Nevertheless, Arumugam stated that the two arrested suspects will be appearing in the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 11 August 2022, with further investigations currently underway.
