During the early hours of Sunday morning, 26 July 2022, a four-year-old girl fell victim to rape. However, her rapist found his escape hampered by the actions of a quick-thinking, courageous 10-year-old.
Allegedly, the victim and a 10-year-old were relieving themselves, when the suspect pounced on them, sexually assaulting the younger girl.
During the assault, Warrant Officer Khan highlighted that the rapist’s escape was upset by the older of the two children.
“The brave 10-year-old began screaming for help, and bit the suspect,” he said.
The 41-year-old rapist was subsequently arrested by the Ladysmith Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit not long afterwards, and according to Warrant Officer Khan, the accused is now being guarded in hospital.
The SAPS KZN Provincial spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo noted that while further investigations are underway, the suspect has made his first appearance in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on 26 July 2022.
