Nearly a year later, the legal proceedings against the farmer accused of murder are finally coming to a head.
Glencoe-based farmer, Garth Simpson’s case continued Monday, 25 July 2022, with the civil rights organisation, AfriForum fighting for charges to be dropped against him.
Simpson is being charged with the murder of 17-year-old Qiniso Dlamini, who was shot and killed by the farmer during an altercation on the farmer’s property on 28 September 2021.

With the legal battle waging, Simpson’s following court appearance took place on 25 April 2022, with AfriForum taking the opportunity to argue why the charges against Simpson should be dropped.
At the time, AfriForum’s Manager for Campaigns, Jacques Broodryk explained that the organisation did not feel Simpson should have been charged in the first place, seeing that he was acting in self-defence.
With the organisation’s legal team providing arguments on why the case needed to be withdrawn and the charges against Simpson dropped, the court case was postponed until Monday, 25 July 2022.
Following the legal teams waging it out in court on Monday, Broodryk pointed out that the case was postponed yet again. But this time, it seemed that the end was near.
“The case has been postponed, again, until 20 September, for the decision by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on whether they want to go ahead with it or not,” he pointed out.
KZN Regional Spokesperson for the NPA, Natasha Kara confirmed that the defence made its representation and that the matter was subsequently adjourned for that.
