After two commercial farmers were shot, with one dead and the other in hospital, Ladysmith police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
Taking place on Wednesday evening, 13 July 2022, two farmers were at their business premises, situated on Bluebank Road in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal.
Whilst at work, an unspecified number of men entered the store and opened fire. As a result, one of the farmers, unfortunately, died on the scene, while the other was seriously injured and rushed to hospital.
The suspects managed to flee the scene and are still at large.
With investigations now underway, Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of Parliament, Alf Lees explained that the deceased and the injured were well-known commercial farmers in the area.
While motives and details around the shooting are still unclear, Lees stated, “Any shooting of commercial farmers has to be condemned, as there is no way to justify this type of criminality.”
