Late on Thursday night, 30 June 2022, in a well-known social establishment on Voortrekker Street, Newcastle—a woman was fatally shot.
Newcastle SAPS spokesperson Lizzy Arumugam confirmed that Newcastle Detectives are investigating a murder case at Ekhaya Lounge. According to Arumugam, “Newcastle Police attended the scene where an African female, 23 years old, was shot and passed away at the clinic.”

However, a source claimed that the young woman allegedly knew her murderer and was shot after the woman apparently ended their relationship.
Unfortunately, Arumugam could not confirm the possible motive, stating that police investigations into the crime are still underway. Additionally, she pointed out that the suspect is still at large.
