Mob beats truck driver after hitting a pedestrian on N11, Newcastle

A chain of events on the N11 in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal has resulted in one person being hospitalised and one dead.

According to Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, Lizzy Arumugam the incident unfolded on 24 June 2022, at around 6:30 pm, just north of Ncandu Park, Newcastle.

She further said that Police arrived at the scene, whereby a pedestrian had been knocked over by a truck. However, adding to the already tense situation, nearby people then proceeded to grab the truck driver and assault him.

As a result, “the victim and the driver were both taken to hospital. Later, the victim (the pedestrian) died in hospital,” confirmed Arumugam. 

With police investigations underway, she explained that Newcastle Detectives have opened a case of culpable homicide against the truck driver. However, regarding the mob, no arrest had been made as of yet.
