24 firearms, two explosive devices and 90 rounds of ammunition recovered in Weenen, KZN

Police have recovered 24 firearms, 90 rounds of ammunition, and two explosive devices in Weenen, outside of Estcourt.

Police spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo explained that during the early hours of Monday morning, police conducted a multi-disciplinary operation at the Manqofini area in Weenen.

“As the police were approaching the identified house, shots were fired towards them. They tactically entered the house and were able to disarm eight suspects,” Constable Ngcobo said.

During a search of the house, police officers recovered a shotgun, two rifles, a revolver, four pistols, and 90 rounds of ammunition. Police also found two explosive devices, a vehicle engine, and marijuana.

Constable Ngcobo pointed out that the police then proceeded to the Sahlumbe area in Weenen, where one rifle and 15 pistols were recovered. “Unfortunately, the suspects fled prior to police arrival.

According to Constable Ngcobo, the eight suspects in custody will appear before the Weenen Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 22 June 2022, facing charges of attempted murder, possession of dagga, unlawful possession of explosives as well as unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
