Break-ins continue to escalate in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, according to Newcastle Crimefighter Task Team’s Imran Ghafoor.

This follows a case, where a store situated on Hawthorne Street, Lennoxton, was broken into during the later hours of Friday night, 17 June 2022.

Ghafoor explained that after the shop owner reported the crime, law enforcement began investigations. This marked the start of the burglar’s short-lived escape.

“We received information about a suspect involved in such a crime,” stated Ghafoor. The suspect was then tracked down and apprehended on Saturday, 18 June 2022, with Newcastle SAPS, Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team and the Newcastle Crime Policing Forum (CPF) able to recover some of the business’s stolen property.

Concluding, Ghafoor reiterated that Newcastillians must remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour.
