N3 Toll Route closed due to trucks blocking the road

Motorists are warned that trucks are closing off the N3 Tool Route. Therefore, road users are encouraged to delay travel in the area.

The N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) explained there are obstructions on Van Reenen’s Pass due to trucks blocking the road in both directions.

Tugela Plaza is closed to Northbound traffic, while Johannesburg-bound traffic is being diverted off the N3 at Colenso/Frere Interchange here in KZN.

This is the second time this week that trucks have blockaded the roads, following the incidents on Tuesday, 14 June 2022, where truck drivers blockaded the N3, parts of the N11 and R34. Truck drivers are allegedly protesting about the employment of foreign drivers.

While the matter was resolved on the same day, the Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula stressed that law enforcement authorities would not hesitate to unleash the wrath of the law on those who resort to unlawful conduct to voice their grievances and undermine the rights of others in the process.

“We will not tolerate lawlessness in the form of blockading of roads, as this not only sabotages economic activity, but undermines the rights of others to use the roads,” Mbalula said on the day.
