Newcastle’s Hawks and K9 unit seize large amount of ammunition in Dundee

In the fight against crime, the Newcastle Hawks and the Newcastle K9 and Explosive Unit have arrested a 61-year-old Dundee, KwaZulu-Natal man for being in possession of a large sum of unlicenced ammunition.

Spokesperson for the Hawks, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo explains that the two law enforcement units recently received information pertaining to the suspect. “It is alleged that members received information about a suspect who was in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. A joint operation was conducted, and members swooped in on the suspect’s house.”

Descending on the suspect’s house in McPhail Drive, Dundee, on Thursday, 12 May 2022, the two units conducted a search and managed to find a staggering 924 rounds of illegal ammunition.

Arrested and charged for being in possession of ammunition without a license, the suspect will now appear in the Dundee Magistrates Court.
