Four people died on Wednesday morning, 4 May 2022, following a collision on the N2 at Kwabonambi, 29km outside of Empangeni.
Craig Botha, media liaison for KwaZulu Private Ambulance, explained the Emergency Medical Services company received reports of the collision during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

According to Botha, “one patient had sustained critical injuries and was entrapped in the vehicle, a further one patient had sustained serious injuries.”
Together with rescue services, the patients were extricated from the car using specialised rescue equipment. They were then treated and stabilised on the scene before being transported to hospital.
Botha added, “Sadly four occupants had sustained fatal injuries and succumbed to their injuries before emergency services arrived.”
The cause of the collision is not known at this stage, but authorities are investigating the matter.
