Despite the danger imposed by the persistent rainfall, a person or party has contributed immensely to endangering the lives of many in the most selfish of ways.
According to reports, on Saturday, 9 April 2022, somebody intentionally dropped oil on the Majuba Pass en route to Volksrust.
Newcastle Crime Fighter Task member Imran Ghafoor explains that a potential suspect has been identified. “We have our suspicions on who is responsible for the act, but we are still following up on more information to determine if the person was actually responsible,” he explained.
Once confirmation has been made, Ghafoor pointed out that the individual will be prosecuted, as the action could result in significant accidents.
Moreover, it is speculated that the oil was poured onto the busy pass to benefit the suspect’s business. However, this cannot be confirmed until investigations are complete.
“It is extremely dangerous, as pouring oil on the roads is playing with people’s lives,” Ghafoor stressed.
While the oil has since been cleared off the road, Ghafoor states that motorists should practice extreme caution while using the road until the perpetrator is apprehended.
The community and motorists are encouraged to report any suspicious behaviour on the Majuba Pass.
