Paramedics and emergency personnel worked against time following two major collisions that left five people dead and seven others critically injured.

Media liaison for KZN EMS, Robert McKenzie, explained that on Sunday, 10 April 2022, the team attended a fatal crash on the N3 highway in Northern KwaZulu-Natal between Tugela Plaza and Van Reenen’s Pass.

Two trucks and a car were involved in the wreck, with a person passing away on the scene.

Additionally, McKenzie said, “Paramedics treated three critically injured patients and have transported them to hospital.” The exact cause of the crash is still unclear, and McKenzie emphasises that the police are investigating the matter.

Further, McKenzie highlighted another collision in Northern KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday evening, this time on the N3 Northbound, near the Loskop off-ramp.

He underlined that this collision involved two motor vehicles, four fatalities, and critically injured four people.

“The exact circumstances resulting in the crash are going to be investigated by the police,” McKenzie said.

Reflecting on the current wet weather conditions, McKenzie stressed, “We would like to remind motorists to be extremely careful when they are driving in these rainy conditions. We would like motorists to slow down when they are driving and to switch on their headlights.”

The Newcastillian – Online News extends its condolences to the families and friends of the deceased.
