On Monday afternoon, 28 March 2022, numerous lives were lost following a head-on collision involving two vehicles on the R39 between Ermelo and Lothair.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala explains that according to police reports, Lothair Police attended a collision whereby a blue VW Polo TSI travelling from Ermelo towards Lothair collided with a white Audi A3 Sedan travelling from Lothair towards Ermelo.

“Further than that, it is reported that the three passengers of the Polo lost their lives on the scene, a one-month-old baby girl, a 13-year-old boy, and a 27-year-old woman,” Brigadier Mohlala explained.

He adds that the two occupants of the Audi are said to have sustained serious injuries.

“The driver of the Polo and two other occupants sustained some serious injuries as well. All injured persons were taken to hospital for treatment,” the Brigadier adds.

While the cause of the accident is unclear at this stage, Brigadier Mohlala says the Lothair Police are currently investigating a case of Culpable Homicide.
