KwaZulu-Natal continues to experience inclement weather conditions that threaten human life. This follows the tragic death of three people on Wednesday, 23 March 2022, in Ofafafa, near Ixopo.

KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) MEC Sipho Hlomuka explained, “The reports received by the department indicate that a 69-year-old female and two children (10 and 13 years old) were killed instantly when lightning struck their home in the afternoon. One person was injured in the incident and rushed to the hospital for treatment.”

Extending its condolences to the victims’ families, Hlomuka explained that KZN CoGTA had assigned disaster management teams to provide the necessary support to the affected family.

MEC Hlomuka added that the rough weather conditions experienced through parts of the province on 23 March 2022 uprooted trees and damaged both public and private infrastructure. He emphasised that disaster management teams continue to assess the extent of the damage in the affected areas.

“We continue to plead with our communities to exercise all caution whenever a weather warning is issued by the South African Weather Service, these warnings provide crucial information which can help to save lives,” the MEC stressed.

The Newcastillian – Online News and Pixelfish Marketing send our deepest condolences to the family members.
