An officer from the Osizweni SAPS station finds himself under the spotlight, following a video that has gone viral on social media.
The video shows a drunk officer in full SAPS uniform and armed, grasping a pole before collapsing to the ground. He is then helped to his feet by a schoolgirl.
Following the recording of the incident, the video was uploaded to the social media platform Twitter.
Brigadier Jay Naicker, the spokesperson for the KZN Police, explains that the Osizweni SAPS Station Commander received the video clip on 9 February 2022.
Democratic policing. How do respect the laws of the country if your boss doesn't. We will see a lot of these @Bhekicele2018 @CyrilRamaphosa https://t.co/JPDuCtf8SW

Moreover, the Brigadier points out that the officer was clearly carrying his service pistol at the time.
“The member was identified as a Sergeant stationed at Osizweni SAPS.”
Because of the gravity of the situation, Brigadier Naicker adds that on 10 February 2022, police went to the Sergeant’s house and seized his service pistol for safekeeping.
A departmental investigation has been opened into the officer’s conduct. Naicker adds that the incident is believed to have occurred earlier this month, on 4 February 2022.
As the Sergeant now finds himself under investigation, what are your thoughts on a police officer being caught drunk?
