Disaster management teams are on high alert as heavy rainfall battered away parts of KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday, 7 September 2021.

KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Sipho Hlomuka explained that heavy rain in and around Durban led to a landslide at La Mercy where parts of a road collapsed and a section of a house washed away.

Additionally, in KwaDukuza, Ward 16, a house collapsed as a result of the heavy rains. No injuries or fatalities were reported in these incidents, both of which took place on Tuesday morning.

MEC Hlomuka now urges residents to exercise extreme caution as inclement weather conditions continue across large parts of the province.

Furthermore, he has assigned Disaster Management teams to support the affected families and investigate the reported incidents’ circumstances. The units are also continuing to monitor areas prone to weather-related incidents.

Residents who experience weather-related incidents are urged to contact their local Disaster Management Centre.
