Arumugam states, “The complainant alleged that he was threatened with a knife, by two unknown males that robbed him of his cell phone.”
The second incident: Aquila Avenue, Signal Hill on 24 August 2021.

Three suspects have been arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen property. During a police stop and search operation, the first two suspects were arrested in Arbor Park on 24 August 2021.
During the said operation, police stopped two men carrying a television, steam irons, and DSTV remotes. When the officers questioned them on the items, the two suspects could not answer why they had them. This led to their subsequent arrest.
The third suspect was taken into custody on 25 August 2021, when the Newcastle Police received information about a motor vehicle transporting copper wire.
The 53-year-old man was found on Albert Wessels Drive, and his car was searched. This led to the discovery of the copper wire hidden in a bag and his arrest.
While these investigations are underway, Arumugam has noted a spat of motor vehicle theft.
The third incident: In the Mumbro Parking area on Murchison Street, on 24 August 2021, the victim reported that a suspect had snatched a parcel from their vehicle before running away.
This was followed by another incident on Allen Street, where a perpetrator forced a motorist’s window open before escaping with the victim’s bank cards.
Four men were seen stealing the wheels of a vehicle between 24 August and 25 August 2021 at Ximba Stand in Blaauwbosch. The Osizweni police are investigating this case.
With the perpetrators preying on unsuspecting victims, Newcastillians are urged to be cautious when travelling in town and vigilant of individuals around their homes.
