The Amajuba Pass, between Newcastle and Volksrust, is currently closed off to motorists. This follows a truck driver allegedly losing control of his vehicle on Tuesday, 10 November 2020, and veering down an embankment.

According to officials, the driver escaped serious injury. But the matter is now under further investigation to establish the exact cause of the accident.

Due to bad weather conditions, the large vehicle could not be retrieved immediately after the incident. Therefore, with the wet weather letting up, tow trucks are now able to recover the vehicle.

However, due to the size of the truck, traffic officials are obligated to corner the road off for motorists’ safety.

Thus, motorists are encouraged to avoid using the Amajuba Pass until later this afternoon, as well as to practice caution when driving in inclement weather.
