The school holidays will come to a grinding halt at the end of this week.

But how ready are you and your child for school?

Be sure to try the following guideline to prepare you and your child for the upcoming school year.

Rising early

The first step in getting into routine is getting up early. By setting your alarm clock and ensuring your child is out of bed and dressed before 8am, is the ideal way to get your child ready for the school year.

Set goals

Get your child to set goals for themselves. Goals can entail: Getting good grades, becoming part of a school club and making new friends.

By setting goals, your child will have a focus point and have something to work towards.

Get ready

Help your child pre-pack their schoolbag and get their school clothes out a week before school starts. This will help ensure you enough stationary and that the school clothes are the right size.

Get a full night’s worth of sleep

Sleep deprivation can lead to stress, acne, weight gain and poor concentration. But by ensuring your child has between 8 ½ hours and 9 ½ hours of sleep the night before school, you can help them face school with the attentiveness it deserves.

Prepare a routine

Prior to school starting, prepare a timetable for yourself and your child. This timetable should include what time homework is done, relaxation time, studying time and times for extracurricular activities.

This helps form a routine which will help you succeed in the long run.
